Homework and Home Learning
HOMEWORK
At Rokesly Junior School we are committed to preparing children for the next stage of their learning. We believe that by setting weekly homework tasks we help the children to develop habits and routines that are essential for success at secondary school and beyond. The homework set helps to reinforce the learning that has taken place in the classroom, it provides an opportunity for independent practice and it gives parents and carers a chance to see firsthand what their child is learning and how they are progressing. In addition, homework provides parents and carers with a framework for active engagement in their child’s learning.
We offer an after school homework club for anyone that would prefer to do their homework at a set time after school.
Homework is set online each week via Google Classroom. It is set on a Friday and is due on a Tuesday. To access the homework, click on the appropriate year group button below. If you do not have access to a computer, please inform your child’s class teacher.
Each week, your child is expected to complete a range of directed exercises:
- A task on Mathletics
- Spellings, which have been taught in class. The children should learn and practise these at home in preparation for a spelling test in school
- An activity to be submitted onto Google Classroom (Click here for instructions on how to access Google Classroom)
In addition, the children should:
- Read daily (recorded in the reading record)
- Complete Times Table Rock Stars at least three times a week.
Click on the appropriate year group to access the homework for the week ahead.
Summer Reading Challenge
This summer, we’re inviting all our pupils to take part in the Rokesly Junior School Summer Reading Challenge! It’s a fun and engaging way to keep reading skills sharp over the summer holidays whilst exploring fun and amazing stories and adventures. Parents can support by setting aside regular reading time and visiting the local library. Let’s have fun reading this summer holiday!

Spelling Shed Guide for Parents
As well as supporting us with delivering our Spelling Curriculum in weekly lessons, Spelling Shed is also an engaging website which helps children to practise their spellings through a series of interactive games. To support children with learning their weekly spellings (and make the process more fun!) your child’s teacher will set weekly spelling assignments. This consists of a range of interactive games that focus on the spelling rule that your child is focusing on that week. Usernames and passwords for the site will be sent home this week.
