As a school, we believe that art and design is a vital and integral part of children’s education. It provides children with the opportunities to develop in a range of ways in which they can share and express their individual creativity, whilst learning about and making links with a wide spectrum of different types of art in our society. The teaching of art enables pupils to develop a natural sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around them.
Our art and design curriculum aims to develop children’s:
- critical abilities and understanding of their own and others’ cultural heritages and experiences by developing their knowledge of a diverse range of artists and designers.
- understanding of the visual language of art through effective teaching and well planned sequenced lessons
- understanding of the key elements of art and design (line, tone, texture, colour, space, shape and form)
The art and design curriculum will engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
